Enso Caffe’Bar
Coffee meets design: The creativity shop etagere now also has its own café! Besides the ever-changing collection of extraordinary and fancy handmade unique items customers are now also served with aromatic Italian coffee – prepared by barista Meiko Enso, from beans of the Nepalese traditional roast house Salimbene. Apart from coffee, lemonades, beer, wine, cider and tasty dolce are offered as well. And to avoid racing hearts due to too much caffeine, there’ll also be free beer and relaxed sound collages by ottersandweasels at today’s opening event.

Cultures serve dinner
Eating brings people together and the way to peace is through our stomachs – I’m just saying this because it fits the topic perfectly. Because at the festival of cultures, taking place in celebration of the UNESCO World Day for intercultural dialogue, people will eat together today: 25 nations, including diplomats and high-profile politicians, ask to sit down at a round table in the Sigmund Freud Park. Spicy tacos from Guatemala and cool hibiscus juice from Senegal are only two of the ethnic delicacies being served here. The multiculti event is loudly and colourfully accompanied by music and folklore. Peace!

Bettina Francan’s innovative bracelet system consists of salmon(skin) and leather plus buttons in over 250 designs. The round “Vantis” can be fixed on the handmade leather straps with a click. This allows the wearer to change the buttons as the whim takes her and to design her jewellery herself. Bettina Francan also designs rhinestone wrap-around leather bracelets, versions with delicate pendants and necklaces under her jewellery label Savantino. Workshop „Blossoming confectionary“
Michael Diewald’s „Blossoming confectionaries“ are tender, fantastically delicious art pieces made of candied blossoms and chocolate. So beautiful that they are almost too good to eat. In today’s workshop the aroma researcher and confectioner shows where he gets his ingredients: Together with the participants he takes a wander through nature and introduces them to the world of edible wild flowers and herbs. Amongst others, elderflowers, ground ivy and chickweed will be picked and tasted. Afterwards the participants will use the plants in producing chocolates and discover the art of candying.

Song Contest Viewing with live comments
Song Contest as a stand-up-comedy: This finals viewing is a potential hit even for Song Contest objectors! Because even though we will surely not win tonight (or will we?), we still want to know a thing or two about it. The cabaret artist Caroline Athanasiadis, the Greek-Austrian half of the witty “Kernölamazonen”, and the German comedian Sascha Korf anchor the event in an uninhibitedly cheeky way and in unreserved interaction with the audience. Who wants to see the Donaukanal in a completely different way? The Playground Festival makes the Stadtbahnbögen in the 9th district pulsate and shine for three days. In daylight the festival offers workshops, live performances, video poetry films and sound painting. After dark the lightshows begin! Eating asparagus is the best spring detox treatment. If you want to enjoy very special asparagus, you have to make your way to the edge of town, to Aderklaa. The insider tip is called Bauernhof Mühl. Asparagus is cut daily – and everyday, including Sundays and bank holidays, it is sold freshly in the pretty farm shop. Of course, they offer both green and white stems and, despite the excellent taste, prices are still very moderate. Strawberries are already available as well! Vienna Independent Shorts
An alternative cinema experience! Austria’s largest short film festival is taking place this week and it does not only impress with an interesting programme but also with hip actions such as the “Airbed movie programme”. This means: The audience lies (comfortably) on the floor in the Künstlerhaus and watches movies that are projected onto the ceiling. Under the motto “State of the Art“, the festival presents more than 300 short and animation films from all over the world, plus music videos. Very crazy: absurd, porno and horror specials as midnight movies at witching hours.

Pleasant sunbeams, twittering birds, a nice bunch of people. This is a very relaxed way of firing the starting gun: The Runtasia summer running group starts off the new season today! Sports fans meet all summer long (every Tuesday!) to discover a new running course in Vienna every week. The routes lead to Donauinsel and to green oasis, to parks and to interesting places. The first running group starts in Prater today. Beginners and advanced runners are each professionally supervised by an instructor. Afterwards they usually organize small events such as picnics or visits to a Heuriger.

In case you have not known it yet: Italy is now located at the Josefsplatz. A crew of young Italians has settled down in the tourist area between Albertina and Michaelerplatz and enliven the neighbourhood: People sing, palaver and flirt – so loudly that you might believe to be in Rome. In the meanwhile, they also cook and bake: The lasagne tastes like Mamma’s, the hot piadina are super-fresh and tasty and you’ll be overwhelmed by the fantastic dolci. Everything to take away or to eat in, sitting on a bar stool. And yes, the small Fiat 500 in the middle of the restaurant is indeed real. It is the cash desk ;-)
