"Heya Girls!"
Since I´ve been living within spitting distance of Kettenbrückengasse, I have discovered the Chinese Vienna. With a bookstore, hair stylist, travelling agency, mobile phone shop and lots of supermarkets. No wonder, since half of the 30,000 expatriate Chinese are living in Vienna. But who really knows the “Chinese Vienna”? One lady does, for sure: Fariba Mosleh has just published the first book about the Chinese community in Vienna, titled “Vienna Chinatown INvisible“. The book tracks down Chinatown-like streets, casts a glance at Austro-Chinese newspapers, explores Chinese women´s leisure time and portrays the Chinese New Year´s concert. Extremely fascinating and entertaining. On Tuesday, she will present her book in the Wien Museum and show us a completely new facet of our town. CitySpotting at its finest ;-)

Wishing you a lovely week

Looking at Monet
Colourful flowergardens, impressive portraits – brushed onto the canvas in unique impressionist-style. These are the trademarks of the French painter Claude Monet. His celebrated pictures already circulated in Vienna around the year 1900 and became a source of inspiration for local artists. A new exhibition in the Belvedere assembles the French exceptional painter´s works that were on display in Vienna back then and presents them together with Austrian artists´ paintings of that period. Monet´s water lilies are back in Vienna. Right next to Gustav Klimt and Jaschke.

 Superamas
SuperamaX
A bit of porno, fetish & sex. What else do men need to survive their later- life- crisis? The performer collective Superamas presents us with a bittersweet comedy on this subject, reflecting on male identity and abysses of the 21st century. In the play, the crisis is embedded in the fictional start- up enterprise “SuperamaX”. As staff members, the artists are searching for their limits to overstep them in a creative way. An evening of performance, dance, installation art and music. Fasten your seatbelts! It´s going to be intellectual, utopian and a bit crazy!

Idol+
That´s an interesting journey through the ages: Prehistoric idols and 20 contemporary artists get to the bottom of perspectives and counterdrafts of female identity. Sabine Groschup anatomises towelling bathing gowns in the context of physicality and fashion. Christiane Spatt questions female fears and desires. And in her work „La belle Irene“, she displays an all- over tattooed female back. Besides, clay figures of the early period reflect the worship of femininity, meandering between fertility, eroticism and women´s central role in society.

What´s hidden in the forest? Fawn, chestnuts, pistachios and stones. But, pssst! Don´t tell anybody! Petra Hartlieb
She already drafted great book-tips for the CitySpotterGirl (here). Tonight she is going to read from her own book: A true story that began in 2001 and since then completely changed her life. During a holiday in Vienna, the former successful PR-lady and literature critic fell in love with a closed book store, chucked in her job overnight and hastily changed her residence. And she reopened the store. In a talk with David Schalko she describes how her beloved store became the living room of her family. And a popular place to go for Vienna´s bookworms. No risk, no glory!

The anger of Eleonore Batthyany
She was one of the most powerful women at the male-dominated court in the early 18th century. He was a denunciated prince who fell victim of a political intrigue. Almost. Because the charismatic “Lori” spied a bit. And so she got the decisive documents to prove Prince Eugene´s innocence to the Emperor. He regained his fame and his position. And he was sealed to her beloved for all eternity. In Erwin Riess´ play “Der Zorn der Eleonore Batthyany” – performed on the original scene of their secret meetings, the Winterpalais – Johanna Orsini- Rosenberg as “Lori” takes stock of their passionate relationship.

Hypotopia town of a billion inhabitants
Rescuing Hypo Alpe-Adria cost us tax payers 19 billion Euros (until now). With all its zeroes, this amount is just an abstract number that doesn´t mean anything to us. Now, a group of TU students decided to demonstrate what one could do with 19 billion: building a complete well-planned town for 100,000 inhabitants, infrastructure, energy supply and education campus included. To realise the financial disaster caused by Hypo, students built up “Hypotopia” as a model town in front of Karlskirche. Brilliant idea, definitely a must see!

S. Pöchacker: New tenants wanted!
She is mad about laughing. And her laughter is contagious, as it is regularly proven in the ORF-show „Was gibt es Neues?“. And now in her new theatre play – an explosive combination of cabaret and improvisation. Centrepiece of the hilarious play: a true real estate ad selected by the audience itself on the evening of the performance. Susanne Pöchhacker and four other actors then use the ad to develop a humoristic play. And to liven things up! And the empty property all of a sudden fills with funny stories of chapters of life, invented previous tenants and imagined future tenants.

Haunted houses in Vienna
Gabriele Lukacs´ latest book presentation is going to be rather scary. The writing tourist guide loves strolling about in Vienna´s mysterious cellars, ruins and crypts in search of vampires, witches and cutthroats. If the old stories are to be believed, not Transylvania is the cradle of bloodsuckers, but Vienna. No wonder that her newest book “Gruselhäuser” displays the abysses of Vienna, once inhabited by bloodsucking countesses and a vampire hunter who left marks in the Danube metropolis that are visible until today.
