"Heya Girls!"
What’s up when a camera races through the inside of a cactus, a polar bear gets depressed and pink bunnies have reached the highest stage of evolution? Exactly! The Tricky Women are back in town. The only Europe-wide film festival devoted exclusively to cartoons created by women shows his almost 130 films this year again at the Haydn cinema – and lets pixels, dolls and clay figures dance on screen. The clear highlight: the full-length film “Aya de Yopougon”. It tells the story of young Aya, who wants to study medicine in Cote d’Ivoire, while the life planning of her girlfriends is rather limited to hairstyles and husbands. She wanted to show a different image of Africa, says producer Marguerite Abouet, one without horror reports and folklore kitsch. The result was a film such as is rarely seen today: vibrant, full of hope and adorably funny!

Wishing you a nice week

Music stories
Why was Mister Spock from the starship Enterprise only able to show his true self in music? And why did teenage violence decrease in London in the 50s thanks to a music style from Jamaica? Those who want to know the answer to the riddle should head to this DJ-gig of another kind. Comfortably sitting in the hotel lobby, Monsieur Smoab tells everything there is to know about the history of music, Herr Preddy plays the matching records. The story behind the music: just like archaeologists, they shed light on every hidden corner of the past.

Pop-up store at Oben
Don't miss it! The location is really awesome: the upper floor of the old post and telegraph office is temporarily (until April!) occupied by art and culture. And now at the sumptuous art space "Oben", young Austrian labels are on display for four days. It is then possible to shop in these unusual premises: fashion, jewellery, decorations, home accessories. Light objects by mostlikely, jewels by Andrea Auer, ceramic by gudshapes or retro-fashion by Vintage & Rosenroth. To start off, Neni Catering and the winery Oggau take care of our culinary well-being.

Urban Vienna Polaroid Tour
Yes, even those who think they know Vienna like the back of their hand can discover the city anew with this exploration tour. Off the beaten track, an urban, creative and often hidden Vienna awaits. When glancing up, one can spot an unusual façade, in a side street, one runs unexpectedly into a cool graffiti. What’s special about this tour that now takes place on every Saturday: instead of taking snapshots with digital cameras or mobile phones, participants are equipped with a vintage Polaroid camera! A great combo of street art, photography and urban exploring.

City garden initiatives present themselves
For all those who already feel their fingers tingling and who want to live out their need for gardening in the city this year (too): existing city gardens such as the garden Wolfganggasse or the Guerilla Garden Längenfeld will introduce themselves this afternoon. One can gain an overview, share experiences, find contacts – and maybe even build a brand new initiative. The CitySpotterGirl will also organise a street garden project in the street of the editorial office this year: informations about ""Meadows in Wieden" can be found on my new gardening blog.

St. Patrick’s Day
The Empire State Building in New York is shining green these days, just like the Ottakringer brewery. Which means: the Irish are celebrating their national holiday! Ladies can show their solidarity and participate in Paddy's Fest, for which the brewery is completely open: while Irish live musicians play all night long in the Hefeboden, the other three flours are filled with sound by 13 DJs playing rock, oldies, electronic and even bad taste. Green beer goes without saying. So: take out everything green from your closets, and off to Vienna's largest pub!

Viennese places of quiet
Cities can also be like that: relaxing, quiet and energizing. Journalist Katja Sindemann reveals in her book where the best oases of peace amidst the Viennese hustle and bustle are lurking. Around 60 tips were carefully compiled: hidden spots, picturesque nature beauties, churches and places of power. All the islands where stressed out Viennese ladies can get their portion of relaxation without much effort. "Wiener Orte der Stille" ("Viennese places of quiet") will be presented today at Thalia, where the author tells about her discoveries and her travels through the districts.

Celle: War Was
Yes, this comes as a surprise! The  military museum, which isn't usually the CitySpotterGirl's favourite place, is now the stage of an art performance. For the 100th anniversary of WWI, a procession of 100 participants moves across the building, navigating with various aesthetic means through the real and mental spaces of the war. Heralds and fates, a choir of complaints and a tunnel of whispers, a pop-performance by Gun-Girls and ritual scenes of martial arts form a colourful dance macabre, a museum tour, a tour de force rich in quotations. To be experienced live today only!

magda goebbels.german mother
While others were worried about their men on the front, she surrounded herself with luxury. As Joseph Goebbel's wife, Magda was living in clover during the 2nd World War. From glamour about her husband's affairs to the bitter end: this play reflects the life of the propagated model mum. And the Third Reich era, which rises again in the dialogs between Magda Goebbels and her friend Ello Quant. The scenes of these conversations are brought to life by projections: the family's home on Schwanenwerder, or the Goebbels-yacht.

Experiment Life – Gabonionta
World premiere! For the first time, our planet’s oldest found living creatures are being shown – in Vienna! The discovery of the gabonionta – named after its discovery site, Gabon in Central Africa – proves that multicellular organisms populated the Earth as early as 2.1 billion years ago. These “natives” were probably wiped out by a natural disaster and the experiment life only succeeded much later in a second attempt. The fossils of this sensational find as well as videos with 3D reconstructions can be seen at the Museum of Natural History.

Lane & Merriman's
Yes, sometimes they improvise. Then everything that’s on the menu isn’t all available. Or it opens up later, because the kitchen is being rebuilt. Doesn’t matter, everything is so nice here at this new Irish’s place that nothing can bother us. Relaxed atmosphere, nice patrons, funny furnishing with lots of books (after all, the pub is named after Oscar Wilde) – and a damn great Irish cuisine. Perfectly juicy fish & chips, delicate burgers, scones – and my goodness, can the Irish bake good bread! The fact that Lane is also an organic shop is just the icing on the cake.
