"Heya Girls!"
Come on, let’s play a little bit of mind cinema. Close your eyes and imagine: grey herons colonising the Stadtpark, cormorants fishing in front of the new skyscrapers along the Danube, herds of dear drifting across the foggy central cemetery, beavers felling trees along the Danube canal. Odd, right? You can open your eyes now. And stop dreaming, because it’s all reality. Under the name of “Wiener Wildnis” (Vienna Wilderness), famous nature photographers have started an exciting new project: they’ve been documenting the nature metropolis Vienna. With impressive photos, as of now available to view on their website, they want to show just how much primitive nature can be found in our city. Exhibitions and presentations are to follow. To extend the urban photo safari through wild Vienna, the photographers are constantly searching for special locations and motifs – and encouraging us all to get involved. Please post your findings via the website. And what was it Lou Reed sang? Take a walk on the wild side!

Wishing You a Lovely Week

Nighthawks
Late night shopping the classy way: this evening five design shops in the 6th district are inviting visitors to some neighbourly gossiping and appreciating. The home décor specialists are presenting everyone with something special. Lichterloh are presenting the famous Mouille lamps (in original), at Quas there are Christmas presents to be found, in Möbel the new Winnipeg photo shelf is being presented and at Habari its South African upcycle flower lamps in store for admiration. And whoever hasn’t had enough yet: at the Long Night of Organic Shops a handful of these shops are open longer.

Maison Martin Margiela bei H&M
Today the scramble begins again! H&M is presenting its yearly cooperation with a famous fashion design house – and this year it’s taken an especially unusual turn. Maison Martin Margiela is known for concept fashion without compromise and, for the H&M collection, has revived representative pieces from the 23-year-long history of the brand. High heels with invisible Plexiglas heels, a skirt made of pieces of trousers and even an over-dimensional blown-up, down blanket coat have made the cut. Avantgarde at bargain prices – brace yourselves, girls!

It’s anzüglich’s Birthday
One of Vienna’s finest addresses for sustainable fashion: anzüglich. The sassy women’s fashion made from fair organic cotton is designed by Bawi Koszednar and finished by deaf Peruvian seamstresses. It’s exactly one year since the little shop moved from Cafe- Atelier Mon Ami to the door next door. Today is the birthday celebration: with late night shopping until 22:00, a film about the production unit in Peru and a 10% on the current winter collection. Funny idea: whoever arrives in an anzüglich dress gets served Peruvian cocktails!

Me, Myself & Them
Sometimes she’s sombre, sometimes idealising and then sometimes puzzling. The view we have of ourselves is a constantly shifting thing. The variety of human self-perception has been captured in photographs by 25 artists. As of today (only until the beginning of December) the photographic group show raises questions about self-portrayal: What does a portrait reveal about one’s one biography? How does it change when reflected to others? The photographs present a splintered I: the empty hollow of a piece of clothing or unrecognisable, hidden under a mask.

HouseVerkauf
Yeah yeah, in Vienna one design market chases the next! Some have already become institutions, others small but wonderful insider tips: for example, the HouseVerkauf, which is only pitching its tents for three days in the 7th district. The market for art, design and music has a weakness for individual looks: jewellery in geometric shapes and clear surfaces by Silberklee, at hug-bag scarf and bag become one, Diba se Diva is presenting playful women’s tops, Phillada has delicate wire rings. Nourishment is provided at its best: in the form of tasty snacks and music!

Lovesickness Pays Off
30-year-olds do it an average of 7,4 times in their lives: end a relationship. Often there’s heartache afterwards, which society still tends not to accept. In the process lovesickness aggravates daily life and restricts work performance. Both trainers, Pia Uhl and Gabriele Vyskocil, demonstrate why lovesickness is nevertheless a chance for further development. In a two-day seminar, participants learn strategies: how to grieve within reason, breaking old patterns and leaving the old relationship behind with new energy.

Truffel Market
Fancy some Italian market flair? The Vienna Truffle Market is a small but very lovely market, which every year only takes place on three Saturdays. Pan e Giardin hosts the three most important truffle dealers in Austria: Jam Litschauer, Richard Poltnig und Arnaldo Miliffi sell the precious white bulbs in all sizes, which are available for only a short period in Autumn. Delicacies such as truffle cheese, truffle salami or truffle butter are also on offer. And in between one sips a little glass of wine and lets Pan e Giardin proprietor, Thomas Edlinger, explain how the truffle is cooked.

And once again, a shopping tip: In the Cafe Prückel theatre classy designer pieces are on display for three days. Tihar – Festival of Lights
With Tihar, Nepal celebrates one of its prettiest festivals: in honour of the goddess Lakshmi, giver of wealth and happiness. On this day, she leaves the world of the gods to set foot on earth, and is to be shown to people’s houses in a sea of lights. Tens of thousands of lights will be lit across all of Nepal on this evening. The Nepalese restaurant Yak + Yeti, which the CitySpotterGirl highly values, will bring a little of this atmosphere to Vienna too. Celebrations will take place with a rich buffet of Nepalese dishes. 1st Orange Wine Festival
Red, white, rosé: up until now, wine came in three colours. Now we can add orange to the list. What only few know: With 5.000 years of history, it’s the oldest of all the wine colours. After a sleeping beauty sleep the orange wine is experiencing a renaissance, now in Istrian Karst and Italian Collio. 35 wine growers from the area are presenting more than 100 orange wines in Vienna today: all of them genuine organic, earthy, without additives. The colour is due to its mash fermentation: juice, skin and pips are fermented together.

Schubert Dies
It’s 184 years ago to this day. Back then, on 19th November 1828 at 15:00, the 31-year-old Franz Schubert died. Today he will be commemorated in peaceful ambience in the apartment in which he passed away: every hour on the hour the tenor, Willi Spuller, will sing Schubert songs (from “Leiermann” to “Lindenbaum”), Ö1 moderator, Renate Burtscher, will read from Schubert’s letters. Following this: a short guided tour through the apartment, where a little exhibition about the last phase of the composer’s life has been set up.

The Swimmer
“I miss you, says the rubber skin of your black swimsuit”. Josef Winkler has captured the pressure placed on the young athlete Mirna Jukic in a poem; caught between patriotic masses, the media and a harsh trainer. Dancer and choreographer, Anna Hein, has created a dance piece from it: with the eroticism of a woman in the water, the moving rhythm of words and vocal movements. The dancer will be accompanied by videos and live music: accordion sounds intensify the athlete’s inner turmoil.

Which spiritual rites have been herded for centuries? What does the every day life of a minority pushed to edge look like? Mitch Walking Elk and Wade Fernandez, two prize-winning musicians and representatives of the North American natives, report on their lives. Agnes Essl Reads From Her Biography
Big artists beat a path to her doorstep. Agnes Essl, who, together with her husband, built Austria’s most important art collection and its largest private museum – the Essl Museum –, has now packed her life between two book covers. Today she reads from her autobiography „Wie ein gewebter Teppich.“ She remembers back to a childhood between strict Protestantism and post-war times, to her role as wife and art connoisseur and her encounters with stars of the scene. A great opportunity to meet an exciting woman who otherwise likes to keep to the background.

A Nordic wave has recently seized our city. Since last week a distinctively Scandinavian- Feeling also reigns around the MuseumsQuartier. The wonderful Fjordlys, specialising in Danish home décor culture, has namely opened there. With practical designs, that look fantastic and can hardly be had anywhere else in Vienna: rocking glasses by Normann Copenhagen, home textiles by Lisbeth Dahl and crockery by Greengate, that follows the mix&match principle and can be combined easily. And when its time for that shopping-break, slurp tea and nibble on Danish pastries in the integrated café. Lækker!

katscheli
When life starts to go on a rampage, one can use a good island of refuge. My current suggestion on the matter is called katscheli. The brand new little cafe sits behind the Karmeliterkirche and is run by an Armenian trio – sister, brother, brother-in-law, altogether newcomers to the gastro scene, who take extra good care of their customers, as is not seen too frequently in Vienna. Sit here in peace and read the paper, chomp on a friendly breakfast or sandwiches, browse the books on the shelves and take in the sounds of French Chansons. And all of a sudden life is on the right track again.
