"Heya Girls!"
Try closing your eyes and imagining this: colourful meadows softly moving in the wind, poppies, butterflies, sweet smelling field herbs. Wonderful image, right? So relaxing. And now, imagine these meadows in the centre of the city, on innumerable windowsills, in flower pots, at street corners and in backyards. Then you'll know what I'm hallucinating about at the moment. Fact is: I'm infected with the Chelsea Fringe virus! The Chelsea Fringe is an alternative festival about gardening that will take place from 17 Mai to 8 June simultaneously in cities such as London, Melbourne and Vienna. And the good part: everyone can join in! And organize plant exchanges, open pop up garden stores, throw seed bombs or organize gardening fashion shows. One only has to sign up until 31 March. I'm going to start my meadow project in our small and grey editorial office's street. You can then come visit us in May and together, we will listen to the bumblebees buzzing. While drinking a glass of May-punch, or two.
Wishing you a nice week

Switching off at a small creative session: artist Regina Lustig now offers afterwork-recycling-workshops. After a short session of 2.5 hours, everyone goes home with at least one finished work. For example, with an original cardboard chandelier that will be crafted today (and on 27 March!).  Other themes next week: sewing bags from bicycle tubes, or making etageres out of dishes. And now, quickly write to the CitySpotterGirl to win: the first three submissions will be awarded with a free place in the course!

Conversation with Sonja Hammerschmid
Rise and shine, dear ladies! I swear getting up will pay off: at the fancy Restaurant Hansen, they will enjoy a delicious breakfast while Sonja Hammerschmid, headmistress of the University of Veterinary Medicine, tells about her career. And it is a really unusual one: in 2010, Hammerschmid was only the second woman to ever be elected at the top of an Austrian university. The breakfast guest will chat about possibilities of science and economy, the headmistress has revealed her favourite books to the CitySpotterGirl: here.

Women only! At this Carnival party, ladies will rock the dance floor at Club Titanic. Those who come without a disguise will get a black mask at the entrance so they can enter the fray incognito. Five DJanes provide for music on two floors till the early morning. Specials of the evening: a hot live show by the Samba Sisters and a hawker's tray girl, who sells vibrators among other things. A bit further, it goes on somewhat more traditional but just as good-humoured: at the Rathaus, there's the 20th Vienna Refugees' Ball.

Hina Matsuri
An ancient custom from another world: Hina Matsuri is the Japanese doll festival. On that day, families exhibit fancy dolls that represent an imperial court. The spectacle is also going to be celebrated in Vienna: the detailed figures can be seen at the Weltmuseum. There will be even more Japanese flair at a tea ceremony, music and dancing, an Ikebana presentation, a Kimono show, workshops (Origami!) and a Japanese buffet. And speaking of food: on the occasion of Hana Matsuri, the gourmet restaurant Unkai serves a special Kaiseki-menu until 10 March.

Courage You Can Touch
This is one original way into the world of courage! Namely with needle and thread: stitch after stitch, participants tell about courageous things they have done in their life or would still like to do. Those who feel like talking can do so. Others can listen only. In any case, it will result in a sewed courage-purse! Materials are available, it is best to bring a few ribbons, buttons and lace to turn them into talismans on the purse – that’s courage you can touch. And with a "courageometer", the level of courage will be measured before and after the workshop.

With stylish gifts that are metropolitan and hip, trendy yet still deeply Viennese. Porcelain cans shaped like Krapfen from Augarten, pretty Heurigen glasses, a fun breading plate-trio, design classics, accessories, books. The new store opens this Saturday, but it is also possible to shop here on Sundays! It's as if time had stood still. The Kalvarienbergmarkt in Hernals, which has been held as a traditional Viennese market for more than 350 years, comes along like a carnival from the CitySpotterGirl’s childhood in the countryside. A carousel, a swing boat, sticks of rock and all kinds of junk dealers. And of course, the famous "Bamkraxler": a toy that has been sold here for hundreds of years, composed of little men with bells slowly jogging down long sticks. Something completely unspectacular can be so endearing.

Female cyclists in the 1900s, demonstrations for women's political issues, women during the NS regime. You guessed correctly, this exhibition is all about the ladies! With around 100 items and pictures, the Wien Museum shows the different aspects of a woman's life. A historical and contemporary glance at femininity: gender staging in contemporary art, "feminine" everyday things, but also works of famous or forgotten ladies can be seen. This exhibition tells about everything from role-clichés to emancipation until 23 March.

Signals of the body

Yet we ignore signs such as sleep disorders, nervousness, irritability, high blood pressure, allergies, heart palpitations or headaches just like the quiet inner voice that tells us something needs to change. Until it's too late. In her book "Signale des Körpers" (Signals of the body), author Claudia Kloihofer describes her own avoidable serious accident - and how she managed to start over. Vintagerie Im Ersten
Two years ago, they opened up a design pop up store in the Nelkengasse – today, the Vintagerie has become an institution for all those looking for vintage furniture, lamps and accessories. Still, the owners missed the thrill of their early days. This is why they treated themselves with a temporary branch in the inner city and until 29 March, they bring all their favourite pieces in the "Vintagerie Im Ersten": there will be Wittmann's sofa "Constanze", key chains by Carl Auböck and chairs by Roland Rainer, covered with Paul Smith fabric from the old Café Ritter.

Shop of the Week
Tipps der Stadtspionin
A shop full of trashy unique pieces! In the full sense of the word, since from a conventional point of view, everything found here would be long due for the bin. Veronika Stocker has collected established upcycling labels in a really original store: jackets turn into dresses, skis serve as table legs and old washing machine drums transform into flower pots for urban gardening. And those who can't find anything suitable in this selection of revived clothing can bring their own clothes once a week and have them reworked by the designers of "G'wandleichen".

Die Süße
This is once again proof that wishing helps. A year ago, we begged the gods on Facebook to send us a nice restaurant in our street. And now, it has happened. Karin Mayer, aka "Die Süße" ("the sweetie") was represented in markets and pop up stores until now, this week she has opened her gorgeous bakery next to the editorial office. Porcelain lamps dangling from the ceiling light up the counter, motley chairs and fauteuils invite to coffee gossip. And since Die Süße knows how to conjure up fluffy cupcakes, cookies and juicy cakes, we now have to go there every day!
