"Heya Girls!"
Yes, I am a bit jealous of everyone who is already on holiday. Although: it's also easy to go on a journey in Vienna. On the weekend for example, Provence is only a step away. To be exact, it is in the 22nd district. In the Hirschstetten flower garden, lavender is currently blooming just as prettily as it does in the South of France - that's why they celebrate lavender-days in the romantic Provence garden. Surrounded by aromatic fields of lavender, the atmosphere is utterly French. A show will demonstrate just how diverse the plant is - advice will be provided on site by the Viennese Gardeners. On the market, visitors will be able to buy lavender and other Mediterranean herbs as well as lavender soap, oil, sachets and bath essences. Provencal delicacies will be served with lavender at the Gartencafé. Those who'd like to can learn how to bind lavender posies in a workshop. And those who’ve found their muse can do a "Vincent Van Gogh" and under the directives of an artist, capture blue fields of lavender on a canvas. Who really needs flight stress and looking for a hotel ;-)
Wishing you a nice week

espresso Kurzfilmfestival
The rustling of leaves in the wind, roses spreading their soft scent, crunching gravel at every step. The festival for good short films is starting today in the Volkskundemuseums' enchanted garden! Every Thursday and Friday all summer long, there will be projections of selected short films from all over the world - from a special on female film-makers to the Tricky Women's animated film. Great: entrance is always free, the espressokantine spoils visitors with lunch boxes specially tailored to the film programme and mosquito sprays and blankets can be bought at the kiosk.

Marlene Streeruwitz
Important visitor at the MuseumsQuartier! Today, Austrian author Marlene Streeruwitz opens the literature festival O-Töne with a wonderful book premiere: Streeruwitz will read from her brand new novel "Nachkommen", thus initiating the MQ's summer of literature. In „Nachkommen“, Streeruwitz deals in her usual direct manner with the intrigues of the literature industry. By the way: in the next few weeks, Michael Köhlmeier, Daniel Glattauer and Wolf Haas will also be reading from their eagerly awaited new novels. If the weather's bad, it'll be at Arena 21!

Marjorie Etukudo
She brings a bit more of summer feeling into the city: Marjorie Etukudo. Born in Nigeria, raised in Vienna, this daughter of a Jazz singer has already been on stage with Supermax Kurt Hauenstein and opened for US rapper 50 Cent. In addition, she loves singing gospel! But on Friday, she will soulfully bring blues, afro-beat, r'n'b and jazz together with her memorable voice. The young thoroughbred musician sings both in English and in Efik. Listen to a sample: here.

Biorama Fair Fair
Eating, drinking, chic fashion: the magazine Biorama once again organizes the Fair Fair where everything revolves around sustainability! For 3 days, the MuseumsQuartier will focus on organic and fair-trade products. Inside, 90 labels will show eco-fashion, design and natural cosmetics, outside people will feast at the food market. Next to old hands such as Sonnentor and Adamah, there will also be newcomers to discover. "iss mich!", for example: a Viennese catering company that cooks with "discarded" food.

Architecture at the river
Whether it be the Urania, the Uniqa Tower or the summer stage - many famous as well as unknown architectural highlights are romping about the nice blue Danube. On Friday, those who need to know (experts of the Architekturzentrum Wien) will reveal their stories: at an exclusive boat tour, visitors can learn everything there is to know about the brand new DC Tower (currently Austria's highest building), Otto Wagner's historical waterway lockage and the controversial Zaha-Hadid House. All that from the comfortable salon on the over deck of the MS Blue Danube.

Fresh aloe vera
Look out, insider's tip! As of now, Lebenswert is selling aloe vera leaves - shipped fresh every week directly from Crete. The gel of this miracle plant, which was already used by the ancient Romans for therapeutic purposes, acts effectively against sunburns in a matter of seconds. Or it can be used as a refreshing mask. And: aloe vera counts as a super-food rich in micronutrients, very hip at the moment, and it tastes especially good with yoghurt. Or it can simply be mixed into a green smoothie. Or enjoyed as an ice-cold juice with fine bits inside. Mmmmhhh...

Dota Kehr
Berlin's "small change princess" is here! Dorothea Kehr is playing with her band in Vienna today. The former well-travelled street musician and front woman of the Stadtpiraten (but the band doesn't want to be called that any more) can not only play the guitar and sing soulfully - en passant, this clever lady who has a dry sense of humour also managed to obtain a medical degree. Until now, the band has declined recording contracts offered by major labels. Her style: critical-poetic texts packed in music inspired by bossa nova and jazz that gets under your skin.

Geh-Café in Neubau
What’s new in the 7th district? Those who like walking as well as making their opinions known should participate in today's guided walk through small parks, passages and hidden green oases in Vienna-Neubau. Apart from information, there will be enough time for discussions and suggestions with the district's provost Thomas Blimlinger. Afterwards, all head to the Geh-Café ("walking café") in the new Emil-Maurer-Park where drinks, snacks and tips by ex-ski race athlete Nicola Werdenigg await. She will show how to get motivated to exercise in the heat.
Meeting point: Neubaugasse 17-19, 1070 Vienna. 15 July 17:00 to 19:00. Web

Shakespeare in the Schlosspark
Romeo and Juliet are back in town! They have settled down in the beautiful park surrounding Pötzleinsdorfer palace. There, among high trees, in front of old bathing grottos, derelict birdhouses and Ringtheater characters, the most beautiful of all tragic love stories will be brought to life. Rustling ball nights, spectacular fight scenes and tender moments of happiness - things are going to be hot for the Montagues and Capulets! By the way, the bilingual theatre company will play alternatively in German and in English. O Romeo, Romeo!

Piber meets Vienna
So let's be honest now: who has ever seen the Lippizaner at the Spanish Riding School? Exactly! Me neither. It's something only tourists do, plus it's quite expensive. In any case, that last argument doesn't apply anymore. While the prancing horses are on vacation, stud Piber's offspring is on a class trip in Vienna. The summer programme with an entrance fee of 10€ shows young stallions that have only been frolicking around the mountains until now, mother-mares with their small foals and historical harnesses with original carriages.

Passt Gut
Clothes, coffee and cakes. The shop's name (“it fits”) also fits at second glance - the small personal store that is half boutique and half café looks very unconventional. The rough clothes racks made of palettes, the floorboards of old roof trusses as well as the wooden counter form an original contrast to the colourful lamps of baseball caps and to the pastel mint retro Smeg fridge. Individualists will find international street wear labels such as Einstein & Newton, All about Eve or Hüftgold. In addition, they make a tasty melange and home-made desserts.

Little Lunch
It is so adorable, so small, so prettily decorated with flowers - one could almost think they're enjoying a private meal in the living room. It is Valentina Resnitschek's realm and does she cook well - my goodness! Everyday, there are salads on the menu, put together in an unusually creative way, and there are always tasty quiches. With a soup and always different healthy dishes. Everything can be ordered to go or eaten on site. The only problem is that this all is available while stocks last. And since it tastes so good and it is so cheap, we'd better hurry ;-)
