editorial

"Heya Girls!"
So yeah, the Phorusgasse. It’s been the home of the editorial office of the CitySpotterGirl for 2 years. Apart from that, it is a bit grey, a bit boring and – let’s be honest – nothing happens there. But now, that’s over! In the last few weeks, we Phorusgasslers have put in place a great community project: the “Meadows in Wieden”. For this, we have filled 350 boxes with soil (sore-muscle-alert!), loaded them with flower meadow seeds and cultivated and cuddled them in a hidden courtyard. On Friday, the boxes (sore-muscle-alert!) will be mounted on the pavement – the Phorusgasse will turn into an urban meadow. And in two weeks, we’re livening things up a bit! We’re closing off the street and throwing a shimmering street festival. With a fashion show by Lu Design, a concert of the singer/songwriter Juliane Blinzer, a salsa lesson on the pavement, a street picnic, a flower campaign for children and a whole lot of fuss. Oh and, there will also be a garden pop-up store in our tiny park. With flowers, gardening books and pretty things for inside and outside. And you are all cordially invited! So that the Phorusgasse finally shows some bright colours ;-)

Wishing you a nice week

Kraftwerk at Burgtheater
„Wir fahren fahren fahren auf der Autobahn“: oho, the CitySpotterGirl’s youth is on stage! The songs that made us dance through the night have today become art. Kraftwerk is now a guest at the Burgtheater for four days, giving eight concerts, one for each of their most legendary albums – a travel through time from 1874 to 2003. And as it often does, the Burgtheater takes the bun with a Festwochen-production: Kraftwerk has developed 3D video projections that turn every concert into a work of art. Only one question remains: where do we get the time we need to experience all eight concerts in four days?

Burgtheater, Universitätsring 2, 1010 Vienna. 15-18.5. Two concerts per day 19:00 and 22:00. 15-75€. Web

Interni Toscani contemporary shop
Benvenuti! Elegant and a touch conservative: those looking for Italian furniture have been visiting “Interni Toscani” for ages. As of now, Astrid and Fabrizio De Montis also venture in modern furniture – with their new shop “Interni Toscani contemporary”. It is a fine little store in the Lindengasse, with big and small pieces of furniture and lamps. It is opened today with a “Shopwarming Party” that starts at 18:00. Real eye-catcher: the bed by Caporali, with its fabulous metal headboard. And very chic: modern lamps of Murano glass by De Majo. Arrivederci a presto!

Cristina Branco & Camané
“Fado”, that means “destiny”. And even those who don’t understand Portuguese will dive into this music of restrained grief and soft hope. Fado has a long tradition. These melancholic songs can be interpreted in a modern way too – this will be proved tonight by two “Fadistas” of the new generation. Cristina Branco is completely into Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell, Camané likes singing Frank Sinatra’s hits from time to time – but at the Konzerthaus today, they will demonstrate the art of “new” Fado: sentimentality that isn’t corny. Listen to a sample here.

Holy Mothers (Die Präsidentinnen)
„We wing our way into this world on a fuck, and still we can't fly.” At the premiere 24 years ago, Werner Schwab’s play created a tangible scandal with its content and faecal language (yep, the word shit appears a lot). This new production turns it into an impressive rollercoaster of comedy that ends in tragedy. The three holy mothers are bigoted lower middle-class who turn out to be monsters. In Milos Lolić’s production, the women don’t meet in a scruffy kitchen, but in a wellness centre. Excellent!

Sample sale at feinedinge
Feinedinge moves to the Margaretenstrasse! It’s already well-known that Sandra Haischberger’s porcelain atelier is one of the CitySpotterGirl’s favorite stores. There, one can find fine porcelain cups, plates and vases that are decorated with Tudor lace patterns, birds and insects. So it’s just as well that a sample sale takes place there for an entire week: the designer sells rejected 2nd and 3rd choice porcelain, but also many “flawless” goods at much cheaper prices. Everything must go before the relocation! While stocks last.

Dancing Stars Orchester
Everyone can have their own opinion of Dancing Stars. But the ballroom live orchestra is a hit. Today, the fantastic musicians will provide the best titles of the show at Porgy&Bess – in contrast with the shortened TV version, they will be in full length. We can expect current hits as well as evergreens that were rearranged by Thomas Rabitsch to be suited for standard and Latino dances. More beats, more groove, more hip swings! And even if today is about music: yep, visitors can dance as well!

Kunstfrischmarkt in the Neubau district
Great initiative! The “Kunstfrischmarkt Wien Neubau” (“Art fresh market Vienna Neubau”) helps young artists to enter the business with a fun campaign: in 45 stores, from “Schuhe für Frauen” to “Göttin des Glücks”, 53 young artists have put up their works for sale. The prices are moderate (from 50 to 350 Euro), there will be photos and collages, drawings and objects on display, all items are originals. This could be a nice walk through the 7th district – and we might just acquire the work of a future superstar at an absolute bargain price ;-)

Free tasting at Bauernsushi
What a funny name! Delivery service “Landfenster” describes Bauernsushi (Farmer’s sushi) as sushis in country-style. And what recipe hides behind that? Strudel-dough instead of algae. And the small delicacies aren’t filled with raw fish, but with minced cabbage, spinach, goat cheese, veggies, apples or curd. Today, all fans of tasty morsels are invited to a free tasting of these small delicacies! By the way, the “sushis” come directly from the private kitchens of farmers. Nice touch: the freshly baked snacks are organic, and so is their packaging.

Up Store Vienna
Austrian designer Eva Poleschinski has an eye for unusual items. And that’s also why her boutique is anything but mundane: sales rooms and atelier are located in a splendid old flat, where one has to ring the doorbell first. The light and elegant frame fits fashion perfectly. Poleschinski, who was elected designer of the year at the Vienna Awards in April, is selling all three of her collections: the international runway collection EP ANOUI, as well as evening fashion and the cool “To Go” skirt that can also be worn as a dress, a cape or a T-shirt. So chic!

Hy Kitchen
Street food? Yes, we know that from television or from famous street kitchens in Vietnam. It is quite surprising to learn that since last week, we can also get food from the truck at the Freyung. And a stunningly delicious one at that! Monica Kranner cooks 3 days a week in a “cookmobile” – and her background as a nutritionist flows into her elaborate recipes. So there are no taste enhancers, chemicals or colorants, and lots of organic instead. Every week, she serves something different: sometimes it’s Chinese bao, sometimes slow food burgers. Huge, huge tip!
