"Heya Girls!"
Somehow, it is always the same: we sit in our office, it's lunchtime, hunger strikes, the telephone rings, a colleague needs urgent help, hunger grows, the next appointment is waiting - and at some point, we run to the bakery at the corner and wolf down a sandwich. But now, dear colleagues of the working population, salvation is near! For some time now, more and more restaurants all around Vienna have been taking care of us people with lunchtime problems and they’ve cooked healthy, creative and quick food. And what did the CitySpotterGirl do? She packed the new mega-trend and all practical tips in a new book! "Wiens bester Mittagstisch" ("Vienna's best lunchtime table") will show you 100 restaurants for a nice quick meal: from take away to business lunches, from secret tips to scene hotspots, from organic to vegan. If she can do it, so can I!
So, it's now the female skater scene's turn to shine under the spotlight! In this exhibition, " If she can do it, so can I!", artists show their view of skating and draw - completely away from the mainstream action sport industry – a self-portrait of female skaters. There will be paintings, pictures and sculptures by Sixxa (Kathi Macheiner), Carolina Frank, Inga Guzyte, farbwerke and Maria Arndt. The works also mark the start of the " Women-Skate-History" collection in Austria. The vernissage is tonight!

ImPuls Tanz
For almost five weeks, our city will become a hotspot for contemporary dancing - with international performances, workshops (even for beginners!) and party nights! The sensational prelude was created by star choreograph and Bach fan (we love his Goldberg variations!) Alain Platel with his Les Ballets C de la B: in the piece "tauberbach", he refers to the project of an artist who recorded cantatas of Bach with a deaf choir. And he combines it with the touching story of waste collector Estamira.

Strength training for women
Many women dread fitness centres and wild strength trainings. Efficient muscle building can be different, says Sigrid Markl and demonstrates it every Thursday. Instead of heavy weights, the entire body is put to work with crunches or tricky squats, sometimes helped by small machines. Those who don't want to imitate "model Arnold" can still look forward to this: building muscle is essential to fight posture disorders, as a precaution against osteoporosis, as a metabolism optimization - and yes, being a bit tighter is pretty too. Marions Hutatelier closes down
We are definitely not amused! After eight years, Marion Weiss closes the doors of her lovely hat shop across from the Ronacher. For good. Small comfort on the side: until 31 July, she will hold a clearance sale where ladies can still purchase artful headdresses at mini prices (unique items start at 15€). And this is high-level handicraft! These objects of desire, made with lots of fantasy, creativity and love, range from straw and felt hats to sporty wool hoods and noble fascinators. Chapeau!

Rooftop Cinema
Yep, it's that time again! The main library's open air cinema Kino am Dach relies until 31 August on good weather. On Vienna's nicest roof, it will show films for six weeks under the motto "Rooftop Cinema Worldwide", in cooperation with internation open air cinemas. On the screens, 45 film highlights, festival and popular successes - from "Little Miss Sunshine" to "Slumdog Millionaire". The films always start at 21:30, the Cinebar on the roof with view over Vienna is open everyday until 00:00. Tonight, they’ll show the current production "Über-Ich und Du".

Silent nights in St. Ruprecht
Vienna's oldest church stands in the middle of the city on the outskirts of the "Bermuda Dreieck". The current construction dates back to the 12th century and is quite unique in Vienna because of its simplicity. The church's offer is unique as well: every Friday between 21:00 and midnight, the house of God becomes an open " Night Church". Lit up by candles only, it allows everyone - doesn't matter the confesison or origin - to rest in quiet and silence. This unusual place of retreat then unfolds an impressive meditative power in which one can leave behind everyday life in a matter of seconds.

Dead or Alive
Gladiator match 2014: at the poetry slam "Dead or Alive" at the Wiener Lustspielhaus today, famous poets such as Ingeborg Bachmann, Ernst Jandl or Friedrich Hölderlin will face off against the most witty contemporaries of the poetry slam scene in word duels. Of course, they (the poets) will be impersonated by selected actors, since they are long dead. The public will provide the decisive jury in all KO-systems: Friedrich Nietzsche and Alfred Polgar, or rather modern masters of sharp punchlines? Let's find out...

Chocofalla
Now that’s something for chocolate monsters. This three-hour-long workshop teaches how to make organic and vegan filled chocolate in a very easy way. Participants can find out lots of interesting facts about the cocoa plant and its value for our nutrition (raw cocoa beans are well-known superfoods!), as well as trivia concerning nuts. Speaking of nuts: those with a nut allergy can work with almonds instead. Grand finale: enjoying the fine chocolate all together with delicious organic wine from the Burgenland. And at home, let’s watch "Chocolat"...

Madame Baheux
Music without borders: at the Silent Music Weibersommer in the Augarten, the quartet Madame Baheux will play stirring folk songs and Viennese lieder (listen to a sample here). When these four local bundles of energy perform, weirdness ensues. To be weird, one has to master their instrument quite well. And that is the case with these charming top musicians who have their roots in Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Klosterneuburg, who have without a doubt conquered the international music scene of the last few years. If the weather's bad, it'll be inside the Bunker!

Guided tour of the Hermesvilla
"Villa with greenspace, imperial, partly furnished, 1350 m² living space". In the middle of the Lainzer zoo, the former imperial hunting ground, stands Empress Elisabeth's " Castle of dreams". Emperor Franz Joseph gave it to her as a present, hoping to keep his wife, who loved to travel, a bit more often in Vienna. Which, as we know, didn't work. To get to the villa, one must first go on an extended walk through the shady park. Today, there is a guided tour that focuses not only on the construction stories of the house, but also on the eccentric empress’ biography.

Cooking lessons on the Summerstage
Cooking in the open air - now this is an unusual cooking lesson! First, participants will cook in an urban atmosphere on the "summerstage" at the Donaukanal, then everyone will eat together. This workshop was organised by the primary schools and will take place twice a week until 6 September. Practically after work, they start around 17:00. The cooking will be Indian, Mediterranean or even Thai. Today, Sangita Nebel will demonstrate how to cook healthy Indian food for beginners. Next week, it will be pizza from the grill.

CitySpotterGirl special tip! Probably the prettiest staging of the ImPuls Tanz Festival comes from the 29 years old choreograph and dancer Dada Masilo from Johannesburg: she transported "Swan Lake", the western ballet classic per se, to the year 2014 with high-class and a lot of humour. She mixes European, classical-academical and African dances. And brings a breath of fresh air to the romantic ballet fairy-tale! This also applies to the music: Tschaikowski meets Camilla Saint-Saens, Steve Reich & Co.

The Greens' "Check Your Bike"
The Green party's Check Your Bike is an event that has taken place across the entire city for a few years; today it's stopping at Friedrich Engels-Platz. Every bike will be examined by experts, then a service and small repairs will be performed on site - adjusting the gears and the brakes, controlling the wear parts and if need be, changing the tubes. Larger defects will be listed and information about the next repair shop will be provided. And nice: it’s all for free! It will be the Stadtpark's and Simmeringer Platz's turn on the following Saturdays.

Oh this is such a nice oasis of calm! In the lovingly furnished bookbinding shop, Kerstin Czerwenka binds old handicraft traditions with creative ideas: in the shopping corner of the atelier, she presents her colourful diaries and guest books, bound in fine Italian paper, metallic photo albums, linen Leporello or notebooks bound in rare Japanese Urushi paper (yes, it's the traditional red lacquer). One piece more beautiful than the next! Apart from the precious paperwork, she naturally also binds books and repairs tattered works.

There's currently nothing nobler in Vienna! Park Hyatt has settled down in the old Bank Austria headquarters and turned it into a temple of luxury. Marble, chandeliers, precious wood as far as the eye can reach. Now, the restaurant "The Bank" resides in the former cashier's hall - and at least this will be a surprise: in all this nobility, it's really friendly! From the receptionist to the cook, there are only charming, witty people. And for lunch, the delicious menus (such as ricotta raviolis with wood sorrel) are even affordable.
