"Heya Girls!"
Yeah, I know: construction sites are annoying. They are dirty, noisy and cause traffic jams. In Austria, people don't usually head over to a construction site willingly – but on Saturday, one should do so anyway. The goal of the journey is the largest urban development project in Vienna. The Seestadt aspern is one of the most extensive construction sites in Europe, with roughly 1,000 people working day after day on the premises. 42 cranes are currently in use in the Seestadt. During the day, they're well-behaved heavy labourers, for just one night, they change – under the supervision of their crane operators – into delicate ballet dancers and play "Crane Lake"! Yes, you heard that right, on Saturday, the cranes in aspern dance in a festive gown of lights on "film music" that was composed specially for the occasion. The entire construction site turns into a stage - the production at nightfall will be the most unusual Dancing Stars spectacle that Vienna has ever seen.

Wishing you a nice week

Stadtschrift
Berlin already has its own typographic museum, here for the first time, an exhibition explores the past of Viennese façades. Since 2012, the association "Stadtschrift" saves beautiful letters gone obsolete from scrapping, climbs up ladders and scaffolds and dismantles neon light tubes or metal lettering. A part of the collection will be presented to the public for the first time at Treffpunkt Lerchenfeld – among others, the "thalia" from the notorious Ottarkinger pharmacy or the neon green "Elektro" that everyone has seen at least once somewhere. Wonderfully retro!

Afro-queen contest
Goodbye clichés! Who is the fairest in the land, this unusual Miss contest asks only incidentally. At the Afro-queen contest, it's not perfect measures that count, but charisma and exotism, culture and immigration. The beauty of Africa can be experienced on many levels: pretty girls buzz on stage, while presenting African fashion by designer Mande Masa. This makes for a very colourful show, which includes musical and dancing entertainement from the black continent. When & where? Tonight at Reigen!

One Billion Rising
Sometimes, only pure activism helps. To set an example against violence against women, the American feminist Eve Ensler changed Valentine's Day into V-Day. Last year, during the day of action, she called out for the first time for "One Billion Rising", acting for the number of women who are victims of violence around the globe. In 205 countries, thousands of people left their workplaces and homes at the same time to dance together in the streets. In Vienna too, there will be dancing today – in front of the Parliament. If there are enough people, it will look just as nice as last year in San Francisco.

Cabala in Schönbrunn
Many leaders had ties to magic: they were looking for places full of energy and power to build their residences. Such as Maria Theresa's husband, who even built an alchemist's laboratory in his "heavenly Viennese place of power”, the Emperor's Pavilion in the Zoological Garden! Today, visitors can follow these mysterious cabalistic and geomantic symbols all around the square of Schönbrunn. This unusual walk shows secret places of power in the Garden and the Zoo, and includes awareness exercices.

NAMEit – SMELLit – TASTEit
Would we like blue tomatoes just as much as we like red ones? And does the eye really always taste along with the mouth? These questions will be answered playfully by food artists during a photo exhibition. Cheese and cakes are culinary combined in a questionable manner; bell peppers are coiffed with steak-hoods.  The vernissage is multisensorial: irritating tastings test the senses of visitors. Weird "smell specs" come to their assistance, to help them recognizing smells.

Flatschers Bistrot Opening
Yes, fans are cheering! And Flatschers has quite a few: they regularly travel to the Kaiserstraße for tasty steaks and burgers. Only a few meters away, the restaurant opens its new branch today. It's called Flatschers Bistrot (that's right, with a t!) and is openly devoted to Francophile living. French music leaks out the loudspeakers, French atmosphere lies in the air. And the food? Just as meaty as the parent restaurant. And, of course, also very French: mussels, éclairs, champagne and original wines. Well then: chapeau!

The world of Fabergé
A precious yet minuscule world: this is how Peter Carl Fabergé's universe sparkles. The most famous Russian jeweller was purveyor to the court of the last Tsars, during his glory days, he employed over 500 goldsmiths and stone-cutters. As the mastermind of this fascinating empire, he brought forth unusual creations of gems and virtuoso handicrafts. Over 160 of these valuables, including four of the world-renowned Imperial Easter Eggs, can be seen in Vienna starting today. Also: the exhibition gives an exciting insight into 19th century Russia!

Swan Lake Reloaded
Tchaikovsky meets Streetdance! Swan Lake, this epitome of ballet, got a complete new touch from the Swede Fredrik Rydman. And he transformed the classic into a modern dance theatre: the famous music is underlaid with electro-beats and rendered unfamiliar, the choreography ranges from slow motion to hectic break dancing. The story around Prince Siegfried and his Odette was also transported into the present by Rydman: the swans are heroin addicted prostitutes, Rothbart a drugdealer. A celebrated piece that now also comes to Vienna.

Mütter
As a mother (of a really wonderful daughter) I'm allowed to say so: being a mother isn't always pretty. This is also what the performers of the Graz ensemble “Theater im Bahnhof” think and, inspired by Cindy Sherman, they clear the assumption that was subjectively prescribed by society that being a mother is always fulfilling – they show themselves as women who research, fight, quarrel and doubt. "Mütter" ("Mothers") is an intimate play about feminist role models, fears of the future, guilty conscience and the desire to understand the next generation.

The courage to take a time-out
Simply press pause. Fulfill a dream long cherished, get some energy and then play back into your usual living environment. Does it sound utopian? It's still possible. Christa Langheiter, author of the bestseller "Mut zur Auszeit" ("The courage to take a time-out"), invites all interested and "time-outers" to a discussion.  During five meetings, experiences can be exchanged and questions asked. How can the potential of a longer professional time-out be used? How are financial difficulties solved? And most of all, how does a good re-entry succeed? Please sign up.

Yukatas at Salon:Fähig
With golden ornaments pulled over a shiny azure blue, complex flower patterns on a deep red: Klaus Rink simply had to bring these wonderful sarong fabrics from his travels to Java and South-Eastern Asia. But what should be done with the growing pile of pristine beauties? Together with Nina Wiplinger, who shares his passion for fine textiles, he created yukatas out of them: uncomplicated kimonos for domestic use. Ladies can wear them as a bathrobe or for a summer party – lined with silk, brocade or fabrics for dirndls (!) so pretty, they’ll bring you to your knees!

setz dich
"setz dich" ("sit down") is Michael Seemann's charming invitation to get comfortable between designer fashion and chic bikes. His restaurant is the linking element in the concept store "Block 44". Heavy commodes from the 50s were turned into a counter, a long table found its place in the bright display. Ladies can recover from shopping with a fair coffee (also with soy milk) and a juicy cake pop, or listen to the men talk shop about bikes with a beer and a cheese toast. An exceptionally relaxed place to stop over!
