"Heya Girls!"
Supposedly, you should also be thankful for the everyday things in life. At the moment, I’m especially thankful for my washing machine. Because even though it feels like electric stoves, ovens and so on came to earth right after unicellular organisms, that’s not true. My grandmother’s first washing machine still had to be spun by hand, back when I was just starting to walk. The record speed, with which domestic technology has developed, is displayed at a fine exhibition at the Hofmobiliendepot, starting March 4th. Twelve different stations show the history of the kitchen: from the fireplace during the Stone Age to the kitchen revolution of the 20th century. You can see exquisite courtly cooking pots and the first built-in kitchen worldwide, an original “Frankfurt kitchen” designed by the Viennese architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky. Also exhibited are pastel-colored beauties from the 50s and experimental designs from Coop Himmelb(l)au. The associations “Foodsharing” and “Vienna Shares” collected groceries, which otherwise would have been thrown out by the supermarkets and used them to cook the most unusual gala dinner of the city. Whoever buys a ticket for the mumok right now, is entering six museums at the same time. Because as of late, 100 of the worldwide most important pop art pieces from six international exhibition centers of the collector duo Ludwig are on display. Including: something loud from Roy Lichtenstein, something brash from Claes Oldenburg and something colorful from Andy Warhol. The extraordinary exhibition presents legendary works of pop art from everyday culture and advertisement of the 50s and 60s, but also shows the critical aspect of pop art. Academy Award deserving! Today the women’s film festival starts for the 12th time in Austrian cinemas. With many great highlights and captivating stories, in which strong women play the lead! Laying focus on “Women and their rights” cineastes fight for justice and peace together with their stars on screen – for example in “Africa Rising”. And in the series “Women and humor”, starting March 3rd, they laugh out loud about sex disasters with protagonist Donna Stern in “Obvious Child”. Valerie Zuna-Kratky saves fabric remnants from the garbage bin! What used to be jeans, fabric patterns for furniture or coffee sacks, is transformed into trendy one of a kind purses by the Viennese designer. Her new shop is also the perfect place for a relaxing break. In the entrance area hot coffee is served, in the gallery on the upper floor the sewing happens. The purses (depending on the size 25 to 125 €) are dangling on a tree branch and a wood swing, next to delicate jewelry made by sister Barbara and exclusive organic soaps. Minimalistic, but cozy nonetheless – a haven of peace in the noisy Burggasse!

The café is tiny, but a real discovery! Sascha and Nina are from Ukraine, but have to study again here, because their degrees from home are not recognized. For a few weeks now, they have been running a “third wave” coffeehouse: only the freshest beans from recent harvests are used to make coffee. The specialty is the unusual cold coffee, made by dripping cold water through ground coffee for 5 hours! Along with it, you can enjoy delicious cakes and traditional Ukrainian Gorischky (filled pastries). And on the wall? Fun t-shirts for sale, made by Nina, who is a designer!
