"Heya Girls!"
The time has come again: Vienna seems to consist of designer Christmas markets only. My mailbox is overflowing with announcements, I’m losing track and I’m heading for my usual pre-Christmas panic. There is only one solution: taking a deep breath and making out a list. Lo and behold, suddenly two really nice markets are emerging. “Die Weiberei” is the first Viennese market for women’s design only – 25 female designers are displaying their creations. YVLA, Kind Rebels and the fashion design collective Modefication provide for fashion, besides there will also be jewellery, accessories and of course, culinary delights. Those preferring a more international atmosphere may wander into the 9th district. The World Art Christmas Bazaar offers tubby papier-mâché angels from Mexico, delicate textiles from Egypt, hand-painted trays and exotic Hmong bags from Northern Thailand. Craftwork from Africa, Asia and Latin America which you won’t find at any other place. So that you won’t, like me, lose track, you’ll find a practical list of the most beautiful markets on the web-portal.

Tonight’s film and show event will present the droll alpha males and quirky would-be stars that appeared in front of his shotgun, sorry, lens. Sometimes comical, sometimes incredible, often absurd, but also touching. And many gems who have not yet found their way into TV: like Austria’s smallest ludo tournament. A “best-of” with the master of humour!

The Taste of Lower Austria
A Christmas market of the gourmet section. For two days, the air in Herrengasse will be heavy with the scent of bacon, dumplings and hot cider, when the Palais Niederösterreich turns into a blue-and-yellow speciality kitchen. Visitors can choose from hundreds of lower Austrian delicacies and rarities, taste and buy. 60 producers will offer their specialities. You can also admire traditional handicraft, such as lace-making, glass painting, basket-weaving and woodturning. Isn’t it convenient when the countryside comes to town? ;-)

Artists Wrap Your Presents
It has already happened that the presentees didn’t want to open their parcels. This may be due to the extraordinarily creative and original look of the presents that are wrapped by young artists until December 23. For a cost contribution of 1.50€ the creative heads get to work in a different location in and around Westbahnstraße each day. Today, we can take our presents to Toma Tu Tiempo and have them wrapped in recycled materials, such as wood wool, egg cartons, CD-covers and remnants. Yes, wrapping does matter!

What if…? If the two men had not existed, Vienna would surely look different today. Around 1900, the two architecture- and design-pioneers both fought for modernism, each of them in their individual approach. Hoffmann - as a co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte – tried to combine daily life with arts. Adolf Loos, on the other hand, was of the opinion that the house has to be to everyone’s liking. In contrast to art products, which have to be to nobody’s liking. Both of them thought, constructed and built in an innovative way. Interesting exhibition with a great retrospective.

Pretty strange: Yet Aristoteles knew that a well-performed presentation of cruel stories can fascinate and frighten people at the same time. No wonder then that thrillers, gothic and horror movies are in great demand. Since this week, the painting gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts is inviting to enjoy horror and fright. The great special exhibition is dealing with the fascination and beauty of horror in art – from renaissance to classicism. 70 spectacular paintings and sculptures are on display: Hieronymus Bosch, Cranach, Tizian, Rubens.

Lugeck
Figlmüller has been known as the home of the Schnitzel for more than 100 years. Every day, hordes of tourists and, yes, even locals, are storming the restaurant. Just a few steps from there, the family opened up their new “marvel” last Friday: the (huge) Lugeck is meant to be a modern reinterpretation of the Viennese restaurant culture. First impression: Mission accomplished! The chefs create classical Austrian dishes in high quality, the furnishing is masterfully meandering between pub and design with witty chandeliers made of beer glasses, pastel metal tiles and much wood – and the service is perfect.
