 Welcome by our President
Dear Members, Colleagues, and Friends of the ESMRMB,

With great anticipation we are approaching a big jubilee, our
30th Annual Scientific Meeting in Toulouse. The chair of the Scientific Programme Committee, Prof. Xavier Golay and his team established an attractive scientific and educational programme that appeals to radiologists, physicists, radiographers, basic scientists and clinical MR-researchers alike.
Thanks to the efforts of Prof. Isabelle Berry, the chair of the Local Organising Committee, and her team you will certainly feel warmly welcome to Toulouse with its outstanding historical and cultural spirit. The congress will also be a forum for communication, face-to-face interaction and research networking between participants from different countries.
Together with the French Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (SFRMBM), the ESMRMB developed a joint session on  “European projects: Management and research”.
On behalf of the ESMRMB, I am proud to cordially invite you to celebrate this unique event, embedded in a unique ambience, with us.
Not only at the annual congress, we are eager to support you professionally, but also during the whole year the ESMRMB is keen on providing you with the most various and qualitative educational programme and ensure the high quality training. In 2013, the School of MRI and the Lectures on MR offer a wide range of teaching courses - so ensure to check out our courses this year and spread the word among your colleagues! In addition, we continue to provide scientific information to you about new MR achievements through our society journal MAGMA with prompt distribution via early online publication before print.
As you surely already have heard, a positive step has recently been made in the debate regarding safety regulations for worker´s exposition to electromagnetic fields. Thanks to the Alliance for MRI, I am delighted to announce that continued patient access to MRI is now granted with both the European Parliament´s and Council´s endorsement of the MRI derogation in their adoption of the revised EMF Directive.
The meeting in Toulouse will become successful thanks to you and your contributions, and I very much look forward to seeing you all there.
With my kindest regards,
Prof. Elna-Marie Larsson

ESMRMB Congress 2013 – Highlights of the programme
The meeting in Toulouse offers three days of educational and scientific programme particularly attractive to clinicians, basic scientists, MR engineers and MR radiographers alike.
In addition to the Sir Peter Mansfield Lecture, given by Prof. Gabriel Krestin, the programme consists of 3 plenary sessions, 15 Mini-Categorical Courses and 8 teaching sessions. Further highlights will be the Roundtable Discussion (Multi-transmit for body MRI - is it worth the money?) and the Hot Topic Debate (Is resting state fMRI clinically relevant?). A Joint ESMRMB/SFRMBM Session will focus on “European projects: Management and research” and the very successful introduced Radiographers’ Sessions in 2012 will be extended to 6 sessions with a new format.
The scientific programme will count numerous parallel scientific sessions for oral presentations. Time slots will be allocated for meeting the authors of traditional and electronic (EPOS) posters, as well as of Clinical Review Posters and Software Exhibits. In 2013 the best posters will furthermore be presented in our newly introduced “Poster Madness Sessions” which will enable you to be briefly informed on the posters that are presented at the ESMRMB 2013!

Philips collaborates with clinical partners to introduce advanced clinical functionalities in MRI
New clinical functionalities designed to transform care in MRI address the challenges of an aging population and economic pressures on health care providers
An increasing global incidence of neuro and vascular disease across the world is a result of both aging populations and increasingly unhealthy lifestyles1. Clinicians and researchers from across the world are working in close collaboration with Philips to develop new clinical functionalities that support high quality, clinically relevant diagnostics, whilst also improving patient throughput. These innovations are strongly enhanced by dStream, the digital broadband technology, available on Ingenia 1.5T and 3.0T and through upgrades, for the installed base.
