"Heya Girls!"
One of the hippest neighbourhoods in New York is in Brooklyn and goes by the name of Dumbo – short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. The big question: what does this have to do with the Augarten in Vienna? Dumbo, which is home to galleries, lofts and start-ups today, was the place where Etsy was founded in 2005. And in the Augarten the first Etsy party in Vienna will take place on Saturday. Etsy is the world’s biggest web portal for the sale of handmade products: In a million mini shops, creative minds and craftspeople offer their art, photography, fashion, jewellery, furniture and cosmetics. Sort of: handicraft 2.0. And since Etsy’s anniversary is celebrated with a craft party around the world each year, the Viennese group is inviting everyone to snipping and crafting in the park. There will be picnic, chit-chat and a portion of Friday creativity: old photos will be embroidered, painted or turned into collages. Craftswomen of Vienna, unite!
Wishing You a Lovely Week

Dance Karaoke
Singing karaoke? Yaaawn. Trendsetters now dance karaoke. And this is how it works: professional dancers from Vienna have created and danced a choreography to their most favourite song. And they did this in – ehm – somewhat particular accessories: pink sandals plus black gloves. The produced video clips will be projected on a big screen at the forecourt of the MQ, in front of a large dance area. And we may then happily choose a clip, slip into pink slippers (no kidding!) and, showing lots of culturally valuable moves, shake to cool sounds such as Those Dancing Days. Special!

Meena Cryle
She’s got the blues! There is no mistaking that young Austrian singer and guitar player Meena Cryle is no stranger to blues. Today she will present her new album “Feel me” together with her Chris Fillmore Band. The sound is incredibly multi-faceted: The rhythms may all have their origin in blues, but they range from classically high-spirited to rocky to melancholic sounds. Almost all the songs were penned by Mena herself. For the young artist, music is emotion converted to sound: that’s why it’s thoughtful and soft at times and then euphoric and really loud again! Have a listen: here!

Vienna Roller Derby
Fearleader, Fresh Meat, Pivot. Ehm... I beg your pardon?! The US is currently in roller derby fever. And the skating has already come to Vienna too. Today, for example, in the home game against France! In this action sport from the 1930s, two teams play against each other on roller skates. And they are mostly women! In return, the men can fire up the audience as cheerleaders (= fearleaders). If you have acquired a taste for it, you can do a few test rounds at a Recruiting Day. Very nice: all physical dimensions are welcome! P.S. The home game afterparty will get started at the B72.

This is not a typo. Honestly. This is art. The five Ts stand for five Juliets. Exactly, the one by Shakespeare, who would have been 450 years old this year. But we digress. Visual artist and director Sungmin Hong has selected actresses from five South Korean productions of “Romeo and Juliet” to play the part simultaneously in Juliettttt. All on their own. No Romeo, no Mercutio, not even the nurse is there. So the famous balcony scene will be declaimed five times, five times it was not the lark. Traditional Korean Pansori theatre meets classic Western drama tradition. A perfect dream!

Low-pressure rooms & Lung training
Thin air as medicine! There’s a low-pressure room in the 9th district that can simulate conditions at 3,500 metres above sea level by reducing the air pressure. This is not only useful for some top athletes, but also helps to treat numerous illnesses. Today a lecture will show how the altitude simulation room can be used in a therapy to treat asthma, bronchitis or chronic cough. It will also be explained how being in a high mountain region strengthens the immune system and helps with burnout prevention. All without drugs. The lecture is free, but please sign up in advance.

Since 2012 Adiba Mahmoud has been designing wonderful dresses with cowl necks or skirts in pastel colours for her label DIBA se DIVA. As of now these will now also be for sale in a cute little atelier shop in the Zieglergasse. Small yet exquisite is the right way to describe it: on only 20 sqm, the collections with the fancy styles hang on white-coloured branches, next to them you can find original paperware by Carissimo Letterpress and cool silkscreen cloth bags (from €13). Right in the middle of the white shop there’s a funny changing cubicle – and the circular staircase leads up to the atelier.

Yesterday still a genuine granny coffee shop, today a trendy insiders’ tip: Cafe Potyka gives a cool impression but is comfy at the same time. Wonder if this is due to the fancy, coloured designer furniture from the 1960s? Or rather the super crispy rolls? On the original menu you can find prosecco with rose syrup and rose petals from Southern Burgenland as well as burgers called “Sissi” and “Nannerl”. Or a Qualtinger breakfast with a small beer. On Sundays fresh bread is baked – time for brunch. And as soul food there’s a piano in the corner and an “open” book shelf. Nice!
