"Heya Girls!"
She is the most famous tear in the entire world. And she wrote the most minimalistic video of all times in MTV history. Sinéad O'Connor, born in 1966 in Ireland and brought up in difficult conditions, had a passion for provocation since the beginning of her career and became an international star with "Nothing compares 2 U". This week, quite a few female world stars are romping about in Vienna. There won't only be O'Connor at the jazz festival (who will perform at the opera on Saturday), but also Natalie Cole, daughter of Nat King Cole, master of velvety ballads - whether they're jazzy, folky or souly. And on Tuesday, Nikki Yanofsky will give a concert in front of the Rathaus! The pretty Canadian (picture) performed in the Montreal jazz festival as a child prodigy at the young age of 12 - today, she is 20 and has sung with all the jazz bigwigs in the world and jams like a boss. (Listen: here.) And since this is obviously a good week, we're even getting the concert for free! We lucky devils.

Wishing you a nice week

Madness
Ladies of an advanced age (such as the CitySpotterGirl) will now shout three "hurrays" while putting on their dancing shoes: after Sinead O'Connor, Madness is now in town too! Yep, t.h.e. 80s ska band with their worldwide hit "Our House" from 1983, listen to it here. During the "Night Against Poverty", the Brit band gives a concert at the Arena Wien. The "guys" are known for their catchy mix of ska, punk and pop and their wit that was later described as nutty sound. Their American ska-colleagues The Toasters will be opening for them.

Courage in the City
Guerrilla-knitting, greening parking spaces, cooperative and sustainable living: changing the public space requires courage. On Friday, we will be shown that there are lots of projects with a heart in Vienna. Once again, the "Mutmacherei" ("encouragering") invites all to a walk through the Leopoldstadt this time, and presents interesting projects. At a stop in the Stuwerviertel, there will be a visit of the neighbourhood garden Max-Winter-Platz. Together, 20 "green thumbs" will make flowers sprout there, exchange knowledge and attend garden parties. Please sign up.

Vegan barbecue
Well, the first try really was a huge success! The ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser, known for its summer barbecues, has recently organized a vegan barbecue. And since it's the first time something like that has happened in Vienna and the success was accordingly big, it is now being extended. It starts today: before things start heating up at the charcoal grill, a variation of vegan appetizers will be served on étagères. When the first taste is satisfied, the buffet will be filled with marinated seitan steaks, Asian vegetable-tofu skewers, stuffed vegetables and veggie burgers with fresh vegan side dishes. All clear
That's exactly what blind bats such as the CitySpotterGirl need: at the seminar "Alles klar" ("All clear"), the topic of the eyes is put under scrutiny. In a very comprehensive way, since the actual ability to see is located in the brain. The causes of sight defects are often not only found in the organ, sometimes they have something to do with emotions, negative beliefs, patterns, stress and lifestyle. In addition, there will also be a before-and-after test and every participant will get eye and relaxation exercises they can do at home as well as tips for everyday life. The Little Prince already knew that: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly...

Market of bad things
Schrottwichteln! (Known as White Elephant in the US) Who doesn't know these hideous things? It can be a sushi USB stick, a cleaning brush with an Afro, vulgar porcelain or a hairy bottle opener - bad taste has many faces and a long past, this we can currently see for ourselves at the Hofmobiliendepot at the show "Böse Dinge" (bad things). Hundreds of people have followed the appeal to donate something hideous for a good cause. Today, the collection of taste-aberrations will be for sale at a market - for 3-50€. An encyclopaedia of tastelessness ;-) The proceeds will go to the neunerhaus.

Tanabata festival
People in all of Japan celebrate Tanabata Festival on July 7th and write their most heartfelt wishes on strips of paper. Then, they hang them on trees and hope they come true. Today for the first time, this is also possible in Vienna! The columned hall of the Weltmuseum is turning into a stage for the festival that originates from ancient Japanese mythology - and of course, ladies can also attach their own wishes in Vienna. There will be Koto music, a show by the Japanese archery group Gakko Kyudojo and Origami crafting. By the way, participation is free with a valid museum ticket.

MAGNUM Dolce & Gabbana
You read that right. There is now an ice cream of the Italian designer duo ;-) For the 25th anniversary of this famous ice cream, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have briefly switched fields and created a special brand: vanilla ice with bits of dark chocolate and pieces of pistachio covered in white chocolate. And since it was so pretty, they even designed the packaging. Interestingly enough, this very limited (!) object of desire only exists in a few countries outside Italy - not even Germany has any. But in Vienna, it will be available starting 3 July in the Eislounge on the Rathausplatz!

Jacob Aue Sobol / Magnum Photos
Jacob Aue Sobol
Two years ago, the Danish Magnum photographer Jacob Aue Sobol started a journey: he crossed the entire Asian continent from Moscow over Ulan Bator to Beijing. The exhibition Arrivals and Departures is this journey's photographic log. Recorded with the Leica M Monochrom - the first digital black and white camera - it tells of Sobol's meetings with people along the Trans-Siberian Railway in dense pictures. These aren't fleeting travel reports; they're intimate portraits of an almost painful intensity.

Riding waves in Vienna
Aloha! And where could we possibly find waves here? At the Alte Donau, where the first wakesurf centre has opened up! There, ladies can't surf on huge waves like they do in California, Portugal or Hawaii, but they should expect at least one meter. And that's how it goes: a motorboat generates an artificial wave which surfers can ride elegantly. Without any kind of leash or tether. And it is ideal for tricks and jumps. Good news for all couch potatoes: wakesurfing is easy to learn. We're the lords of the boards...

Europe's best buildings
And once again, a nice vernissage for fans of architecture! Every 2 years, the Mies van der Rohe price honours Europe's most innovative architecture projects. From 335 nominated items, the concert house Harpa in Reykjavik emerged victorious this time, designed by the Danish architect's office Henning Larsen and artist Olafur Elíasson. In total, 40 of the nominated buildings from all over Europe are presented in the exhibition with plans, pictures and models. Also on display: the 16 Austrian projects that were submitted.

Sissi – Beuteljahre einer Kaiserin
The Tschauner Bühne stage rocks the musical world - with Sissi as a man! If one asks a New Yorker what they (besides Conchita) associate with Vienna, they will most of the time answer Mozartkugel or the famous empress. Ok, in exceptional cases Wittgenstein. Vienna's last ad-lib stage clears such clichés and serves a wild trash-musical with humour and esprit. In this shrill and absurd production of director Markus Richter with the Tschauner Reloaded Ensemble, which consists of musical and cabaret actors, history is rewritten. For eccentric characters ;-)

Jimmy Choo
What happens when a lady enters the store of the luxurious brand Jimmy Choo with completely unfitting footwear? That's right, she gets treated like a queen anyway. At least, like La Lopez or Scarlett Johansson. For many, Jimmy Choo is the paradise of shoes - and starting right now, heaven is in Vienna too. The elegant store is furnished in a decently reduced style, which makes the shoes and accessories glitter and shine all the more: pumps, sandals, slingbacks or sneakers of satin, glitter, patent leather and leopard patterns, with matching bags and belts. So pretty!

Mercado
No, it is not only the look - with mural paintings, colourful patterned fabrics and beautiful dishes - gorgeous. The cuisine is surprising as well: they cook Latin-American food, which was almost unknown in Vienna until now. Shrimps glazed with tamarind, crispy beef empanadas with a lime vinaigrette or bulgur balls filled with chicken land on the plates. Delicious! The clou at lunchtime: all courses on the lunch card are served in lush appetizer sizes. And depending on the hunger, one can simply order one, two or three courses.
